Hops is most commonly used to relax the nervous system and relieve nervous disorders, by rubbing the oil on the neck and temples. It can be used to induce sleep. Topically, it can be used in treatment of boils and rashes in addition to being used for pain relief, particularly pain that has a rheumatic origin. Hops Oil is commonly used in dreamwork or dream rituals. It is said that their green color reflects the light of the sun, which is why it is sometimes called ‘Sun Herb’. They push forth both male and female flowers and from this fruitfulness comes seeds. For many years, hops has been used in ritual beverages and sacramental ales, originating in the British Isles.
