Cramp Bark is also known as Guelder Rose, Highbush Cranberry and Snowball Tree. It is a member of the elder family. Like its name suggests, It is a great remedy for muscle cramping and cramping associated with menstruation. History suggests that it could be used to prevent miscarriage. Cramp Bark is considered a uterine tonic. It is also highly useful in easing the spasms associated with asthma and coughing. Tierra suggests it can be used in the treatment of heart palpitations. Its qualities include: antispasmodic, sedative, nerving, astringent. In addition to its medicinal properties, ritualistically, Cramp Bark is used in celebration and ceremony associated with fertility including pubescence, menstrual or moon cycles and menopause. Most commonly, it is rubbed over the lower abdomen and back externally.
